About me

I am Gillian, a current student at Parsons School of Design, one of the top art schools in the world. I am working towards becoming an art educator on an elementary school level. I am pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Art currently, and after plan on receiving a teaching certificate. I come from a small town in New Jersey where I worked frequently at local elementary schools providing after school care and art lessons. I have been babysitting and working with children since I was 14. When I was 14 I taught my first after school art class at a local elementary school, still a child myself.
I have been working to familiarize myself with childcare and education throughout my career experiences. I have been a camp counselor and a teacher. As a counselor, I took responsibility, as well as got myself involved with activities with the kids. I am an active and energetic person and participate with children to establish myself as not only a leader but also a friend to them. I am currently teaching myself how to cook as this is my first year of school without a meal plan. I enjoy baking with kids, I nannied my freshman year and baked as a fun activity with the kids. I worked at CAMP summer 2019 and during that time received CPR certification.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to be an elementary school art teacher with a children's book published. I hope to work in a school and promote creativity for young children after I graduate as well as create my own work on the side. My elementary school art teacher was a pessimist, I was very upset when I talked to her post graduation and found out about her hatred of her life. She was drained, and hated art and teaching. I want to create and foster a fun environment for everyone where children can grow, because if the teacher hates it the kids will never learn to love art and creatively prosper.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I would love to teach children baking and art. I have vast experience teaching art classes to children of all kinds. With me as a sitter, your children will get a free art lesson. I have taught polymer clay, sculpture, painting, drawing and general crafts. I also enjoy baking and believe that is a very healing activity that children would enjoy. The process of baking is a lot of fun and the end result always pays off. I can find vegan or healthy recipes if requested.
