About me

My name is Chanel Stone and I am born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I have two siblings, a young sister and an older brother. I grew up in an extremely creative family, with both my parents being artists. My siblings and I all trained in dance and musical theatre, and I spent a huge amount of my childhood in the dance studio. There, I found my love for not only dancing, but teaching, connecting, and mentoring young kids. I moved to NYC in 2015 to pursue my dreams in dance at Long Island University Brooklyn. I graduated in 2019 with my BFA in Modern Dance. I am currently signed with a dance company called Company XIV as a full-time performer, though our performances are unfortunately on hold until NYC allows theaters to reopen.

I have worked intimately with children since I was 13 years old. I started by babysitting my youngest sibling, which blossomed my love for childcare. I then started assistant teaching at the dance studio I trained at, which I continued to do until my high school graduation. During junior and senior year of high school, I babysat for an infant. I would feed him, burp him, play with him and rock him to sleep. I would change his diapers and help his mother by cleaning the house and folding laundry while he slept. During college I began babysitting for a family with two beautiful children, ages 9 and 11. I would pick them up from school, take them to the park, or the library on rainy days. I would take them to get dinner and make sure they finish their homework before their parents returned. I have most recently been babysitting for a family with three small children, ages 4, 3, and 2. I would keep them entertained and always learning something new by teaching them dances, reading to them, and making crafts for example.

Mentoring young children and teaching dance throughout my life has had a huge impact on how I care for the kids I babysit. I strive to build a personal connection that they will cherish years after my time with them has passed. Every precious moment with them is a chance to learn, grow, and inspire the future generation. I am grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to do so with your beautiful children!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I hope to have my own dance collective that performs my own work. I would love to make dance films and continue my life as a full time artist. I would also hope to continue mentoring young girls who had dreams of performing just like me and inspiring the younger generation that anything is possible. I love to instill positivity and reassurance into young aspiring artists.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

With my background in dance, I love to play improvisation games with the kids I babysit. I like creating dances with them, stretching, or being a free as we want and helping them explore the possibilities of movement. Playing improvisational acting games and becoming characters can be so much fun. I like to make up songs, poems and stories. Painting and making crafts is always fun to do with young kids. I know how to knit and could even teach a child that if they are interested. I know how to do hair and could teach them how to french braid or do any style they please.
