About me

My name is Kara Schindler and I’m a 23-year-old graduate of Colgate University, where I majored in History and also studied English and Creative Writing.

I grew up in Chatham, NJ, where I was a straight-A student, a year-round athlete (swimming, tennis, field hockey, lacrosse, track & field, and more), and an active volunteer in my community.

I have been babysitting and nannying for over 10 years now and am hoping to go back to school to pursue Early Education or a similar field in the near future. Despite the instability of graduating from college during the height of the pandemic, I found that my passion for working with children and their families has remained incredibly strong and important to me.

I have always known that my greatest strength is my ability to interact and engage with people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. I have worked in formal professional settings, including offices and customer service jobs, but no occupation has ever brought me as much joy and fulfillment as working with children, learning from them, watching them grow, and getting the opportunity to be a part of their lives.

As a responsible and well-mannered young adult, I find that connecting with children and families not only brings me a great deal of joy, but also has allowed me to harness my creativity, interpersonal skills, and communication abilities to their fullest potential.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

A professional nanny, family assistant, teacher, consultant, or some role that involves working with children, utilizing my creativity, and helping people.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

It depends on the age group of course, but I love doing arts and crafts with kids and playing with them outside. Both of these activities are so simple and familiar but I find that they really spark the child's imagination and bring them out of their shell. Regarding crafts, I've always been a very creative person (although never much of an artist) and appreciate the way drawing and coloring soothe the mind and can have a really calming effect while also sparking inner excitement and creativity. Regarding the outdoors, I have always been a very active person (I did almost every sport growing up) and have developed an appreciation for the healing element of the outdoors. Being physically active and getting fresh air is something that children need just as badly as adults do, and I think it's important and rewarding to instill children with an appreciation for their surroundings.
