About me

Hi, my name is Kenya Scantlebury and I'm 28 years old. I grew up in a small town called Bloomfield in the state of New jersey. I lived in Bloomfield all my life with my mom, dad, brother and two little sisters. My brother and I are what people call Irish twins because we are just about 12 months apart in age but he happens to be older. My two little sister are 10 and 7 years old also 3 years ago my nephew was born. My greatest memory as a child was playing outside in the summer time with my brother and my cousins for hours in the sun also going on family trips every summer. My brother and I loved the water we learned how to swim at a very young age and I definitely could say it was one of our favorite things to do. We also spent a lot of time growing up with our older cousins because my mother and her sisters are very close.
When my first little sister was born I was a junior in high school her and instantly had a bond that was unbreakable. I played a huge part in helping raise her and it was such an amazing experience watching her grow up. By the time my first sister was born I had already been working with kids at the YMCA in Montclair nj, I started working at the YMCA as a freshman in high school, working in the gym as an athletic teacher for just about any sport you could think of and I was also an aquatics instructor. As the years went on I became very versatile at the YMCA I was given a lot of responsibility and started to teach my own classes in just about every department, and also became a camp director. I also worked for a daycare in high school called Olive Tree daycare center. Working with kids for me is very rewarding is doesn't feel like a job to me. It comes very natural.
I can work and have worked with kids of all ages. I was a college basketball player so I have tones of energy. Since college I focused more on trying to see what else I was good at besides working with children so I got into the corporate world. Only to find that I prefer to work with children because I feel more like I'm making a difference in the world when I am helping kids. I am a C.P.R certified and I have a life guard certification as well.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I'd like to have my own traveling basketball program from girls and boys from about middle school up to high school age range. My goal is to have it be a no profit organization and make is cheap for families with talented children to play the sport they love and get the proper training and guidance they need to elevate and keep our youth off the street and out of trouble.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am extremely athletic so I love to help kid grow sports wise and keep them motivated to push toward their goals in life wether its writing an poem or riding a bike I really just love to help. I also am great with teaching children good mannerism its a very important life skill to have and kids will learn and be thankful for the good manners instilled in them at a young age by their caregiver.
