About me
I am a Southern girl that grew up in Mississippi as the oldest of three girls. I was always babysitting as a teenager and loved being around children. I played softball, was active, and loved being outside whenever I could. I was very involved in school, being a participating member of FBLA where I competed in math competitions and also very involved in various organizations at school. I went to Belhaven College in MS after high school, where I met my husband. I left to be a military wife and traveled extensively. I had two amazing girls early on in our marriage but continued to go to school and received my BS in human resource management from Hawaii Pacific. I stayed at home with my girls and eventually started taking substitute positions at school as we moved around. I eventually started working for the government which I held for 2 1/2 years before I followed my dream to open my bakery. I had a cupcake shop for almost seven years and this was an amazing part of my career because I started with nothing and built it up to be a successful business the first year. I loved this place and the relationships with the people I built. I divorced after twenty years and later sold my business to move with my current partner. I have become a health coach and also nannied for several families since then.
As a substitute teacher, I mainly worked with preschool and lower elementary children. I loved teaching and engaging with them. I worked as a nanny for a one-year-old for five months. We spent most of the time, strolling and playing outside, learning how to do interactive games, and going to various group activities where she could learn socialization. I was with her nine hours a day so feeding, bathing, naps, were all part of the routine. I also was a nanny to a three-month-old for four months. I stayed with her while mom worked from home. I was primarily feeding and changing her, and when not sleeping read books and engaged with her in playtime. I currently am a nanny for three children, with my main job being driving them to different activities. I have stayed overnight with them when the parents have had to go out of town.
When I am with any child, depending on their age I like to connect with them in a way that is fun for them. When I am with the seven year old, he shows me things he is interested in and loves to explain "things" to me. We play board games and sports games. When I am with the 11- and 13-year-old, I mainly listen to them talk about what they're interested in with the occasional gymnastics show or cooking activity. With smaller kids, I love to play games with them, build things, arts and crafts, cook, help with school work, and anything they find entertaining.
