About me

My name is Muse Giacalone, I am a 23-year-old New York native of French and American citizenship. I was raised between NY and a small village in the South of France where my father is from. Raised by educator parents, I was fascinated by learning about history, literature, and politics from an early age. With a sister six years my junior, I established an instant interest in transmitting knowledge and skills to younger children. I began babysitting and tutoring sporadically at the age of 15 and also joined a tutoring club in my high school to help younger students with their homework.

I attended a rigorous French-American high school in Manhattan (Lycée Français de NY) and specialized in literary and philosophical studies. I graduated in 2015 with honorable mention, receiving both a Baccalauréat certificate and an American high school diploma with a 3.8 GPA.

Afterward, I pursued college studies abroad in London working towards a BA in English Language and Literature. Upon returning to NY after a year of studying, I decided to transfer my studies to an online format and am currently in my senior year.

I have worked with children ranging from the ages of 6 and 13 for about three years now, both as a caregiver/babysitter and tutor. I've oriented dozens of children in their homework, especially linguistic problems in French or English. I also sought to further develop children's precision in writing and reading comprehension exercises tailored to their needs. I like to create inter-disciplinary games and methods to further students' cultural knowledge of history and geography as well as moral and socio-political realities. I assure children remain focused especially when faced with challenges and moments of self-doubt. For the children that I have babysat, I have picked children up from school, brought them to activities around Manhattan, guided them during their homework, prepared meals, helped them to bed, and played educational and fun games with them. I am still in contact with many of the families I have worked for and seek to create a true link with the children not only in helping them with their learning process but also with their self-understanding and social skills.
