About me

I grew up in Portland, Oregon as the only child of two writers. My earliest memories are of my parents reading me bedtime stories. This sparked an early love of writing that I have turned into an academic focus as I complete my final year at Sarah Lawrence College. I have had various internships within the publishing field, at places like O, the Oprah Magazine and Poets House, and am looking to pursue my writing career in New York after graduation.

When I turned twelve the first thing I wanted to do was take a CPR class and become a certified babysitter. Soon my friends and I created a mini babysitting business and I was working for many different families in our community. I loved babysitting because it combined my zeal for structure and independence with my love of being imaginative and silly. In high school I regularly babysat for a family with two middle schoolers who I would help with homework, listen to music with, and geek out with over books. For two years in college I nannied for two girls, who were eight and ten when I started but now are ten and twelve! I picked them up from school and would help them with homework, learn some Tiktok dances, make them a snack, come up with activities, and occasionally make dinner and put them to bed when the parents had a date night. The summer after my sophomore year I worked full time at Purple Circle Early Childhood program as a teacher’s assistant. I learned how to aid in the education of children ranging from 2-5, and was mentored by some great educators who taught me the values of play and experience-based learning. For the past year I was lucky enough to be a nanny to three girls aged 6, 9, and 11. I worked full time meal prepping, grocery shopping, planning activities, and exploring the city with these lovely kids.

When I look back on my childhood, I really value the relationships I had with not just my parents but the other adults in my life. I had a long term nanny who was caring, creative, and full of new ideas. Together we made our own card game based off of Harry Potter characters and wrote original songs. She taught me that the world was full of beautiful possibilities. I would love to be this kind of influence on another child.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to be getting some of my writing published, earning money at something that fulfills me, and living a good life in New York.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Writing is my passion and I love to share that with the children I look after. Whether it's coming up with a story together or asking them questions that will help them look at the world through a creative lens, I try to incorporate my love of writing in every way I can. I also love to sing and dance and am a big fan of instigating an impromptu dance party, especially as a way to get some chores done!
