About me

I was born and raised in Guatemala. I have a sister, though with my extended family, I feel that my cousins are more like siblings. My parents embody unconditional love, and so I was raised in a peaceful home. As for college, I went to Algonquin College for Culinary Management. Since graduation, care-taking and the culinary arts have been dominant factors in one way or another: I was an au pair, I took care of a baby for several months, and more recently, I was a personal chef to a family of three. These experiences have made it so that I feel more than confident with children of all ages. I also greatly enjoy the aspects that come with adapting, either in meals or cultural settings.

I have worked with children for a little over three years. Most recently, in New York, the family had three daughters. Their ages were from 10, 6 and 4. I arranged playdates for them, take them to their activities and do fun projects on their free days, such as going to Color Me Mine, going to parks and museums. I then worked for a family that had a baby girl who was first 9 months old and then 15 months old when I left. I changed her diapers, fed her, played with her and soothed her to sleep. I was very vigilant and engaging with her, even observing her first steps. And then there was my first job as a nanny, with a trio of children. A 5-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, and the oldest brother who was 12 years old. I was only with them for one year, but being with these children made me love kids.

I first learned to thrive with cooking through family events; I’ve always tied that passion of mine to bonding and togetherness. As a result, that became my gateway thought process to being a full-time nanny. I’d be able to make a living, but I also joined a familial atmosphere that felt warmer than the usual run-of-the-mill job. Only later did I discover that I was quite good at being a mentor to children. I believe in authenticity, in treating children as these very aware, but very vulnerable beings who need a lot of love and attention. And so, if I can give that in any capacity, partnered with the parents’ guidance, I’m grateful to grow as a person in these homey environments.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I would love running my own catering business with my two friends and change up the menu every so often with new menu items that we would think that people might like and have a small section with different style coffees and cakes.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I would love to teach the kids their own values and truly love the people who they are. I would enjoy to teach them how to bake and cook things. Make crafts, such as jewelry, or sewing, scarp booking, and drawing. I would love to walk with them around the park and bring a basket to make a picnic. I would love to share caring for animals and the environment and go to the museums, share moments of happiness and understanding and trust.
