About me

I am originally from Omaha, NE and have one sister who is 6 years younger than me. As a child I was super well rounded and strive to be that always, as I explored different avenues I fell in love with the performing arts so I decided to go to Oklahoma City University where I pursued and graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Dance Pedagogy. Since graduating, besides performing professionally in multiple shows across the US, I have worked for a care giving agency as well as caring for two families, long-term. I also have worked as a brand ambassador, front desk administrator, temp worker, server and bartender. And I have continued to choreograph and teach dance to students ages 3-18+, at studios in CO, NE, NJ, and OK and I teach yoga in NJ after earning my 200-hour yoga certification.

I have been working with children since I was 10 years old, starting with watching my sister and close family friends. I continued throughout middle school and high school babysitting and have had extensive experience watching infants as young as 4 months old. In college I tutored a 10 and 12 year old after school, then right after college I provided long-term before and after school care for 4 and 5-year-old sisters. The duties included: transportation, overall entertainment/fun (games, activities, arts and crafts), doing their morning routine, and making snacks. I also was a school emergency contact, watched them late nights, and over night a few times when I was in charge of their nighttime routines and putting them to bed. Since living in NYC, I have provided short-term care for over 25 families, but most extensively for a family with a 9 and 11-year-old sister and brother. The duties were: after-school pick up, transportation to play dates/activities for one or both of the kids, making sure they finished their homework, cooked dinner, and watched them on some late nights where I made sure they finished their night time routines and got them into bed. I also was entrusted with the credit card in case of buying meals, metro cards, cabs, and any necessities when we were out.

I love watching children's curiosity and imagination take over. I love to listen to what they have to say because it is so pure, simple, and yet profound (if not just entertaining)! I aim to be a positive part of any child’s life, no matter what capacity I hold in it. You never know when you are the only smile, caring presence, or loving voice they have encountered on any given day. No matter how many people they have who love them in their life, I want them to know I care.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I hope to be still doing the things I love. Living with the love of my life and creating a life together. I want to still be teaching and choreographing for studios and would like to work more with competition teams since I love being a part of that environment. I also would like to still be performing and being on stage, my next goal would be to go on tour so between now and then I hope that my hard work has paid off in that way. I also would love to be moving on in my yoga training to get my 500-hr certification and add more teaching hours to my certification in order to prepare myself to teach at more studios to then open a studio of my own at some point. It also is possible that I might want to get my masters (MBA possibly) in order to teach dance in a collegiate setting as well as provide another stepping stone in preparation to own a business.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to share my passion for performing and all the benefits that come with taking dance class. You learn so much more in the dance studio such as how to express yourself, respect others space and creativity, and explore your own creativity and imagination. You also learn listening skills, etiquette and stage presence, how to communicate in multiple ways, and overall, dance can be an outlet for many people to escape and find freedom to navigate the valleys in life. Since this is my main passion, I always love to do anything musical with kids whether it is watching them do a performance, practice lines for a school presentation or performance, dancing with them, singing, or playing instruments. But no matter what, I have experienced so many different things in my life that I can usually find something to add to a child's experience and offer some advice, fun facts, or knowledge about the things they are exploring. I love to be a joyful part of any kids day, whether it is providing a safe space, a smile, or just someone to spend time with them. I do not try to parent or do heavy discipline, but the more time I spend with a child the more I can help teach them as well as get a read for how it is appropriate to discipline the child if need be. I also try to answer questions they have, since kids are so curious, but if its something more serious that a parent should answer I always bring it up to the parents to let them know. I love to stick to their schedule yet find a balance of doing things they love, taking breaks, and listening to what needs to be done. All in all I am a very organized and task oriented, task driven person so I always make sure they get done what they need to. Overall, I love to go into every sitting with an open mind and be willing to doing different actives, try new things, cooking new food, and being there in the moment with whoever the child(children) is(are) including taking in the environment the family has created, because they all are so different! I know I am not perfect and will make mistakes, but I own up to them, learn from them, and move on! I love being a chameleon and well rounded care giver who is open to learning more and trying new things.
