About me

I am currently living in New York. I attended Penn State University and studied Early Childhood and Elementary Education and minored in Psychology. I am a certified Pre-k through 4th-grade teacher and I have taught both domestically and abroad. When I am not working with children, I am spending time with my family, cooking, doing yoga, kickboxing, drawing, or writing.

Last year I taught 5th grade writing in East New York following the writing revolution curriculum. I am deeply passionate about the writing workshop process and I encourage every student to consider themselves writers. Growing up, I felt that writing was the best way to express myself and understand my emotions, and I still feel it is a good outlet for my students. Prior to East New York, I lived and worked in Tak, Thailand as a 1st through 3rd grade ESL teacher. I earned my TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification in a month-long program taken in Thailand prior to my teaching. I have a deep passion for travel and experiencing other people's cultures and traditions. This started when I studied abroad in Perugia, Italy during my junior year of college. I was able to teach ESL to 3rd and 4th graders and absolutely loved immersing myself in Italian life.

I started my first babysitting job at 13 years old as a mother's helper for a wonderful little girl named Isabella and I have sat for half a dozen families since then. In every single job I've had, I have worked with children. I have worked with children of all ages from newborn to 18 years old. I have also worked with children who live with various disabilities. I am dedicated to ensuring children feel loved, supported and that they can achieve anything they put their mind to.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

A Master of education and be settled into a primary school where I am able to work on my teaching craft. My family lives in the tri-state area so I intend on staying in this area to live and work.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am deeply passionate about writing and believe every child can benefit from having a writer's notebook. As a child, I found it a great way to channel and understand my emotions as well as a creative outlet. I also loved to scrapbook and collage which are fun, creative and soothing activities to do with kids. I played soccer my entire life up until I graduated from college and I would love to coach a soccer team one day so I envision being very active with my kids and playing sports if they are interested. In my previous sitting jobs, I always loved taking my kids on nature walks, collecting different finds from the woods and sparking their curiosity. I am also a certified, highly knowledgeable teacher, so if the child I am sitting for needs academic assistance, I would love to provide it!
