About me

I grew up in western Massachusetts and lived with my mother, father, and younger sister. My family is very creative so I grew up loving to draw and play music. Eventually, I became a harpist and taught children and adults how to play the harp. I've always had a love of reading so I obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from Hunter College. I'm currently attending Syracuse University in hopes to receive a Master's Degree in library science. I hope to work in outreach and child/teen programming at a public library in the future. Young children typically have that same love of creative exploration as I do, so while babysitting or nannying we tend to get really creative together!
   
For the past 5 years, I have been nannied for several families in short-term positions. My most recent position was part-time nannying a 4-year-old girl in Manhattan. I was responsible for organizing playdates, meal prep, school pickups and drop-offs as well as just finding something fun and interesting to do together. Before that, I cared for an infant part-time starting at 7 months old in Oakland, California. I changed diapers, adhered to a strict napping schedule, took her on outings, warmed up milk bottles, had some tummy time, sang to her, even experimented with some solid food when it came time. Before that, I cared for a 1-year-old and a 3 year-old full-time. I was responsible for grocery shopping, breakfast, lunch, driving them to school or class, taking them on outings and caring for them when sick.
   
My love of reading, music, art and libraries really drives my connection to childcare. I've loved every nannying and childcare position I've held. Balance is an important part of my babysitting approach. Children need structure and discipline along with creative freedom and to experiment and explore things they are curious about. I discipline without raising my voice but speaking, explaining and listening to them intently and I act with consistency. Another important part of babysitting is clear communication between myself and guardians. I want to keep consistent with their rules and make sure they are involved and know what is happening when they aren't there.
