About me

I grew up in Central Florida, where I graduated from a small liberal arts college called Florida Southern College. I graduated with a double major in History and Interpersonal Communication, and a Minor in Art History. After graduating, I made the big move up to New York and have happily called Brooklyn home since!

Growing up it was second nature to be around kids as my mom is an elementary school teacher. The family I most consistently babysat/nannied for had a 4 year-old boy who had behavioral issues but grew immensely in the time I was there. Over the years, I have also worked at day summer camps, childcare events, and as a second set of hands for families who needed a little extra help. I have also consistently volunteered in the nurseries at church. Part of my passion and comfort with kids comes from the fact that there are so many in my family who have incredible parents that I have learned so much from. I have a brother who is 13 years younger than me, which taught me so much as I entered adolescence and young-adulthood as I helped care for him. Additionally, my aunt and uncle have seven kids, which meant there was always a new baby around! In college, I became a regular babysitter for a family of two boys. I started when the oldest was 2 and the second wasn't born yet, and finished when they were 4 and 1! I also helped with families who I was referred to for one-off evenings and days. I now consistently work with two families, the first with three kids, 5 year-old boy, 3 year-old girl, and 1 year-old boy, and the second with two kids, 5-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl.

When I am working with kids, I often think of Fred Rogers. One quote that guides my work with children is "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." I strive to take the inner and outer worlds of the kids I'm with seriously because it is serious tot them! Seeing the way he made things a bit less scary for kids by making feelings mentionable and manageable is a north star for my own interactions with kids.
