About me
A heart and warm hello to whoever may be reading this! My name is Melanie I grew up in Central Florida, where I graduated from a small liberal arts college called Florida Southern College. I graduated with a double major in History and Interpersonal Communication, and a Minor in Art History. After graduating, I made the big move up to New York and have happily called Brooklyn home for the last seven years!
During my first few years in the city, I worked in the world of marketing and advertising - an experience I really credit with helping me explore the city, build community, and grow in varied skills. Like everyone, March of 2020 brought with it unexpected changes which ultimately lead to my work as a full-time nanny! I worked for two families - think nanny share set up. One family had twin girls who I started with then they were a few months old, and the second family had a 6 yo, 3 yo, and itty bitty newborn! Additionally, I nannied for a third family for six months starting when their baby girl was 3 months.
Over time, my role as nanny morphed into more of a household and family assistant. My work included everything from grocery shopping and meal prep to schedule management and help with travel. I adored my three and a half years doing this work. As the families grew and shifted, I decided to take my personal assisting into a corporate space. While I enjoyed my time in a new environment and am very proud of the work I did there, I am now looking to be back in a family/home based atmosphere. I love being a part of the "village" and I would love to be a part of yours!
When I am working with kids, I often think of Fred Rogers. One quote that guides my work with children is "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." I strive to take the inner and outer worlds of the kids I'm with seriously because it is serious to them! Seeing the way he made things a bit less scary for kids by making feelings mentionable and manageable is a north star for my own interactions with kids.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me!
