About me

I grew up as part of a big family in North Florida. Most of my childhood was spent running around outside, in my grandparents' playroom, or swimming in their pool. Though play was a huge part of my childhood, having an elementary school teacher for a mother also meant I spent a lot of time on, and even enjoyed, schoolwork. Reading became a huge pastime of mine, especially in unpredictable, rainy Florida summers. As well as instilling a joy of learning in me, I believe watching my mother teach when I volunteered in her classroom also planted the seed that grew into my love of teaching children and helping them grow. I moved to New York City in March of 2019, and I can't wait to continue my journey in childcare here!

I've worked with children in some capacity for almost as long as I can remember. Babysitting and volunteering at church when I was as young as twelve, where I was responsible for infants and toddlers, and then later the 5- and 6-year-old class. This role was mainly focused on keeping the children entertained and playing with them for a few hours, as well as providing snacks, changing diapers, assisting with potty training, and occasionally arts and crafts. This weekly gig led to several jobs with families I met through the volunteer work. I had two fairly regular date night sitting jobs when I was in my later teens. Eventually I landed a job as a part time nanny to a 4-year-old-girl who was in my care mornings and evenings, anywhere from two to five days a week. I would come over in the morning and wake her up, make her breakfast and pack her lunch, get her dressed and take her to school. I picked her up in the afternoons and usually took her on an outing to the park or a bookstore, after which we would go home in time for dinner. On nights when her mom worked late, I was also responsible for her bath and bedtime. I was with this family for about 10 months before moving to New York. Once I moved to the city at the beginning of 2019, I found a job with a nanny share company where we specialized and were trained in the Montessori method of teaching. For the majority of my time with them, I was the full time nanny to a little boy who was 5 months old when I began, and had his first birthday shortly after I left them (though I do still babysit when he's home from daycare). I was responsible for the baby's routine every day. I worked with the parents on sleep training, as well as baby led weaning when he started showing interest in solid foods. Before we started solid foods I was responsible for warming breast milk for each of his meals as well. I organized activities and playdates outside of the home several days a week, and played and read with him on days we stayed in. Occasionally, I was also responsible for correctly administering prescribed medicine and over the counter medicine at his parents' direction. I also help with changing and cleaning his diapers and clothes, as well as general tidying up. Once I parted from that family I had a temporary job as a back up nanny with a child about 10 months old, and then a pair aged 9 months and one year, for whom I carried out very similar duties. I'm CPR certified, as well as being certified in the 5 rights of medication. I have some experience with baby sign language as well.

I have a deep love of music and arts and crafts, both of which I love to share with the children in my care. Children are some of the best actors and storytellers, and I love encouraging them to explore their imaginative and creative sides. Watching children grow into their personalities and learn about the world they live in is such an exciting experience, and it's very important to me to be their to nurture every child's creative spirit. I'm so thrilled to be considered to join your child or children's journey, and I can't wait to hear from you!
