About me

I grew up as the youngest of four children. My brothers are more than 14 years older than me, so I grew up with a niece who was born when I was 7 years old. I have always taken care of my niece like my little sister. I always knew that I had talent in the arts - I took dance classes since I was little and always created art pieces as a hobby. I studied International Business and Design in Peru, and after moving to New York, I decided to follow my passion and study Visual Art.

After college I started working in schools with children, including pre-K, elementary, and middle school students. That is when I fell in love with the idea that we can understand and help children grow while making art. I decided then to study psychology and start a Master's program in Art Therapy. In 2016 I had the opportunity to volunteer at Free Arts, a program where kids and their parents are involved. Through the program, parents and children had to work as individuals and, week by week, start to work as a team. This was a great experience and learning opportunity to watch parents and children learn how to better communicate with each other, listen, and have patience and teamwork.

In addition to my work in schools, I have nannied and babysat for families in New York City and Connecticut. I worked for four years with a family with four children, including live-in work when the family had a new baby as well as some summers & weekends. I've worked with twins, newborns, and toddlers in addition to the school-age children I now teach art to. Working with all different ages has shown me that psychology and art are important no matter the ages of the children, and I hope a Master's in Art Therapy will help me help children solve their problems through art and creativity!
