About me

I grew up in a cottage in the woods in New Rochelle. My childhood days were spent playing in nature and making art. I later attended Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where I studied Expressive Arts Therapies. Today, I incorporate art, music, dance, and an understanding of child development into my daily work as a nanny. These art forms are profound tools with which children can navigate their world.

Throughout college, I worked at a daycare during summers and school breaks. This daycare allowed me to work with infant, toddler, preschool, and school age children and taught me how to develop age appropriate curricula for these four classrooms. For several summers, I worked as a part-time nanny for two families who each had sons ages 3 and 5. Our days were filled with trains, bicycle rides, chalk drawings, and outdoor picnic dinners. After taking a few years off to work as a Licensed Massage Therapist, I returned to childcare as the full-time nanny for a beautiful six-month-old girl. It has been an honor to be present for her physical, emotional, and mental development. I took her to the park or classes, facilitated mealtimes, bath times, nap times, and bedtimes while also completing household chores. Before beginning work with this family, I gained certification through the Newborn Care Training Academy as a Newborn Care Specialist.

Outside of my work life, I spend time deepening my practice in yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. These practices have profoundly transformed my work as a caregiver and allowed me to be far more present, compassionate, and patient with children. If a child is escalating emotionally, I meet them with a calm presence and give them space to de-escalate so that we can practice clear communication. It is my goal to create trust with the child so that they can feel safe to express themselves authentically and we can gain an understanding of each other.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Teaching therapeutic yoga and meditation tools to people from all walks of life and cultivating more self-compassion and compassion for others.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

With infants, I enjoy facilitating tummy time, reading, exploring colors, sounds and textures, singing, offering nurturing touch, singing and doing simple movement exercises. With older children, I love to draw, paint, collage, sculpt, make jewelry, do origami, quilt, build forts/ tents, make obstacle courses, do outdoor sports, throw a frisbee, play tag, read, sing, write songs, do puppet shows, dress up, perform a play, free dance, choreograph a dance, do baking/cooking projects, do at-home science projects, go to the park/museums and much more! The life skills that I like to teach and demonstrate are breathing to calm the nervous system, expressing feelings and desires clearly, navigating conflict resolution with calm words, taking a break to be alone and cool down and understanding our own feelings instead of running from them.
