About me

I grew up in Berkeley, California with my parents and younger sister. I was a dreamer. I liked writing stories, reading, and making up elaborate fantasy worlds to play in. In college, I studied creative writing and English, and always made time to share my knowledge of English with young students. I worked at after-school programs and summer camps, volunteered for at-risk youth writing programs, and worked for an educational non-profit where I assisted in an inner-city classroom. Eventually I took a gap year and moved to Spain, where I learned Spanish and became a certified teacher of English as a Foreign Language. I lived and taught there for a little over a year, and then returned to New York finish my degree. I've been teaching 7th grade English Language Arts since graduation.

I've been working with children on and off since I was 16. For babysitting jobs with children aged 1 to 12 years old, I have changed diapers, made dinner, worked on puzzles, read books, crafted projects, and more. As a camp counselor, I went on hikes and ran circle activities with groups of 5 and 10 year olds. I taught private English lessons to toddlers and preteens in Spain. I am a current middle school English teacher, and have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade English. My experience is varied and has spanned over many years. I love kids and am excited about the possibility of spending time with children in a playful setting!

As a story teller, an educator, and a lover of language and writing, I thoroughly enjoy the chance to expand on children's ideas. Adults can aid in developing a child's voice and creativity by just listening to them and joining in on the play. Children are fascinating, and deserve to be heard. I am here to listen!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

A well-practiced, successful middle-school teacher, with an MA in Education and just enough extra time on my hands to write short stories in the evenings.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love festive art activities. We can bake cookies together. We can play with clay! I have some theater style word-association and storytelling games. We can read! We can sing! We can go to parks and museums and mini-golf! We can build forts in the living room or backyard! Whatever your child enjoys, we can find someway to have safe, educational fun together.
