About me
Hi there! My name is Maddalena! I grew up in Bergen County, NJ, with my 3 siblings and 6 step siblings (the Brady Bunch had nothing on us!). I spent most of high school exploring my interests, doing everything from swimming, tennis, creating art, volunteering, and coding in robotics club! I graduated with an honors A.A. degree in psychology this spring and transferred to NYU on scholarship to complete my B.S. in applied psychology, the first of many steps in fulfilling my dream to become a clinical psychologist focusing on child and adolescent care!
My child care journey began back in 2013 when my family opened their home to foster care. Up until we closed our home back in 2018 we fostered about a dozen infants to preteens with and without special mental, physical, and emotional needs. I had all staple child care responsibilities in addition to accompanying them to therapy, doctors appointments, and supervised visitations. It was an incredible and challenging experience that lead me to choose to pursue a child care related career.
Even when I'm not babysitting, I'm "babysitting". I help raise my twin 6 year old brother and sister, so even outside of my professional child care work, I see the direct impact of having a quality caretaker has during such a sensitive period of development on a daily basis. I believe I can utilize my passion and skill to be that caretaker for your family! Thanks for taking the time to read my profile.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
- Twins
- Multiples
- Special Needs
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Happy! Yes I know, that's pretty corny, but I hope to be happy and surrounded by the people I love above everything else! In that time I also hope to finish my master's degree in psychology and travel the world.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
Kindness and self esteem. I try to Incorporate mindfulness and positive psychology- essentially focusing on a child's strengths when connecting with a child to help them develop into healthy, well rounded individuals. I'm also a bit of an artist, so I love teaching kids about different mediums and methods of making art beyond pencil and paper!
