About me

Like many older sisters, I was basically born a babysitter. As a child I loved to read, draw, dance, and play. My family often went biking, hiking or camping (my parents didn't allow TV). I babysat infant twins as a teenager, and after high school became an Assistant Teacher to a class of 3-4 year olds at a special needs daycare. During that time, I worked closely with several developmentally disabled kids, and created activities that engaged and were accessible to them. In the following years, I was an au pair twice and worked as a babysitter and nanny here in NYC, while attending Sarah Lawrence. I graduated in 2017 with a BA in Dance & International Studies and worked as a nanny for an SLC dean with 5 year old twins before transitioning into an office job, but I ultimately decided to channel my passion for childcare into my primary profession. I can swim, am CPR certified and am fluent in Spanish.
The children I’ve cared for range in ages from 6 weeks to 13 years, and I tutored many of them in English, math, or science, including a 7 year old girl with ADHD for whom I developed new methods of tutoring to accommodate her needs. I spent two hours daily going over assignments with her, during which I worked to create new learning strategies. Her main difficulty was focus, so I developed tools to gently nudge her back on track when she became distracted, and learned to manage the occasional tantrum.
My time in the corporate world made me realize how much I miss children and how badly I want to do meaningful work. Childcare is one of the most under-appreciated forms of work, as well as one of the most crucial to our society. I believe that children must be seen AND heard, and that they deserve not only kindness, but respect.
I am fully vaccinated and still wearing double masks indoors and on the subway.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I adore reading and really love finding that perfect story that pulls a kid in. I also like drawing and crafts, and as a dance major I love to dance with any kid that wants to learn or just play! I also love to bake and am happy to share fun recipes with kids in my care.
