About me

I didn't always want to be an educator. However, while at Wesleyan I spent a semester in Amman, Jordan, and a subsequent summer interning at an Environmental Center in the city of Bethlehem. There, I realized that one of the most direct and forceful ways to create a more just world is through fair, creative and thoughtful education of our children. Now entering my second year at the Teacher's College, I am looking to supplement my classes with hands-on learning based in engagement and, most importantly, fun.

I believe every moment we have is a moment for learning and development, and this is especially important in the critical stages of childhood. My experience with childcare began early and varies widely, beginning with teaching English to poverty-stricken communities to children in Chandigarh, India. Since moving in to New York City, I have Smart-sat longterm for a five-year-old girl (and we still keep in touch!).

This past year I worked as a first-grade teacher at the Trilok School in Brooklyn, creating and implementing the entire curriculum for my classroom, including literacy, math, social studies and art. The themes we explored—family, belonging, and migration—often overlapped, regardless of subject. I used history in our lessons to weave these threads together, with the understanding that children must explore their past in order to understand their present. While teaching, I have been simultaneously studying at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College, where I learned to incorporate music, art, and movement to bring our lessons to life, and I am continuously learning new teaching methods to add to my toolbox.
