About me

I love my vocations: writing and caregiving. I grew up outside of Boston, and had a happy only-childhood. I adored family, friends, books, woods, animals and ice-skating. I knew I wanted to be a writer. Before, during and after earning my BA in Literary Studies from Middlebury College, I traveled all over the world, from Nepal to Mongolia to Mexico. In the twenty years since college, I have earned two Master's degrees (English and Fiction) and am working on a third Master's (playwriting), while taking care of incredible children.

I’ve worked long term for three amazing families; meanwhile, I’ve complemented my caregiving career with specialized positions in education and social work. Most recently, I was the nanny in Park Slope for the child (6) of my oldest college friends, both artists. We played countless imaginary games everywhere we went. Before that, I was a Smartsitter for seven years for two siblings in the UWS (6 and 7 to 13 and 14). We would make art, read, and discuss story ideas or magic cards, host playdates or have picnics, go to the Museum of Natural History or Wollman Rink. Meanwhile, I was a Waiver Service Provider in the Bridges to Health Program of Graham Windham, working one on one with children in foster care (5, 6, and 8). I worked alongside teachers, biological and foster parents, and therapists in homes, schools, and communities. I researched trauma-informed creative therapies, and was an on-call crisis interventionist. For the five years prior, I worked as a personal care attendant after school for a boy in Montpelier, Vermont (10 to 15). The boy used a wheelchair and my job included physical assistance. It also involved assisting countless art projects. A highlight each year was Halloween, when we would create complementary superhero costumes. Prior to that, I spent a year as Para-Professional Educator in Montpelier Public Schools. I worked one on one with children (6-18) who had disabilities, implementing each child’s Individualized Education Plan. I supported them physically, emotionally, and academically.

My strengths as a caregiver are curiosity, dedication, and openness. I love encouraging kids’ creative pursuits. Now, one child is in college studying theater, another is a proficient coder, and another has a college degree in sound design. Kids know that I am always interested in their imaginations. I am happy to be a consistent, calm, accepting person in children’s lives, and to be able to hold space for kids experiencing serious challenges. I hope to show children that their worlds are unique and fascinating and full of possibility. They always are.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to be living in New York with some plays running in small theaters that are changing people's lives. I hope to be producing little concerts and plays with my partner. I also hope to be taking care of children.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love teaching writing, reading, ice-skating, roller-blading, speaking "gibberish," science experiments, study habits, and creative problem-solving. I am always ready to read aloud or talk about books. I love sharing my passion for theatre, and enjoy taking kids to New York City shows. I have a lot of very talented friends, and love introducing kids to exciting theatre professionals. I'm always happy to share my love of animals with kids. I like telling stories about my 18 year old cat Spyder (he is a character), and I am happy to take a half an hour walking the length of one block because a child wants to stop and pet every dog. In terms of activities, I love exploring New York with kids. There are so many art, music, and theatre shows to see, and so many museums, neighborhoods, playgrounds, and parks to visit. I have traveled extensively, often backpacking, from Mongolia to Russia to the Dominican Republic to Syria to Iceland to France, and I love to share my traveler's spirit with kids in their amazing city.
