About me

I believe that children are the future. I have a younger sister who I have always felt a responsibility for. I am four years older than Eleanor, so by the time she was born I was able to recognize the beautiful relationship and opportunity that comes from being an older sibling. I loved being able to protect her and teach her. We shared a room growing up so we spent a lot of time with one another. I carried the relationship I had with my sister into all of my relationships with children as I got older. Growing up can be hard, and being a care-taker or a role model means guiding people through the more challenging parts of life enough that they remain positive, but still allow space for them to make mistakes and figure out their own unique way of navigating this world.

My relationship with my family and my sister is what inspired me to start babysitting and ultimately teaching. I started babysitting in a more independent and professional capacity when I was in high school. There were a number of young families in our neighborhood with small children. I got to know the families growing up, and as I got older they asked me if I could watch their children. I not only formed a great relationship with the children, but with the whole family. To babysit is to be welcomed into a home, and to learn the ways that different families care for their children and their space. That same energy of family, connection and community, is what I bring into a babysitting or teaching space.

I am still close with many of the families that I babysat for from my earlier days of sitting as well as families that I started working with more recently. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by kind, inspiring caretakers growing up and I hope to be one of those caretakers for whatever children I am around. Children are the future, and hold so much energy and possibility for change and growth. If we nurture them, and show them love as they grow, they carry that into their adulthood and the spaces that they begin to grow and shape for their generation. I enjoy working with children because of the possibility for inspiration and social change it can bring to the word.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

teaching art at a high school or an independently run after school program. I would like to work with and help to inspire children from a wide range of backgrounds to feel empowered to think and create as much as possible. My dream is to teach full time during the school year, and in the summers pursue my personal art practice. To me art is about community and inspiration and I feel that the best way to share that is through teaching and personal exploration.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Art is my true passion. I am familiar with a wide range of artistic techniques and practices. I love to translate more advanced techniques into something that children can understand and utilize. art projects are one of my favorite things to do, but I also love to cook and appreciate the outdoors. I love showing children fun and healthy things they can make and eat, because I feel that to appreciate the food we put into our bodies is to appreciate ones self. nature and exercise is where I find my peace. I love sharing that space with children whether it is walking through a park, playing in the playground or learning a new game.
