About me
I am the youngest of three children, born and raised by two amazing parents in rural Indiana. I went on to train at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance where I graduated with High Honors. Since moving to the city, I have been auditioning and working in the activist community, with a focus on homeless youth and criminal justice reform. I recently returned to the city after wrapping up a national tour of the children's book Pete the Cat, where I had the distinct pleasure of performing for over a thousand kids per night!
My childcare experience started my final semester of high school when I took an internship with Big Brothers Big Sisters. In doing so, I served as a Local Hero to two fifth grade boys; helping with homework, talking to them about their problems, teaching them social skills, and cultivating a positive self-esteem. While in college, I served on the student board of MPOW, a program that brought in inner-city grade school children for a day of artistic-based education and character-building hosted by the University of Michigan. That led to becoming a teaching artist with 7 Mile Music and CreativityNow!, two fine arts camps for at-risk youth. Since moving to the city, I have been a babysitter for three families (averaging 18-month commitments). Children ranged between 4yo-12yo, with 2-3 children per family. My duties included homework help, meal prep, extracurriculars, organizing play dates, or coming up with adventures of our own! During the pandemic, I was the facilitator for the kindergarten virtual learning pod.
I am a performer at heart; whether that be on the stage, telling a story to my roommates, or cracking a joke at a party. I also love writing, making up songs, hiking, board games, running, and cooking meals with my Mama! When it comes to childcare I like to describe myself as a jester with a steady hand. I know how to make kids laugh and feel comfortable, but also am aware of how to keep order, calm down, and be responsible with homework or chores.
I have professional child care experience with...
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
In 5 years, I hope to be...
I hope to be working consistently in the New York theatre scene, serving as a board member of a humanitarian non-profit, and preparing to run for local office.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I am a huge crafter; coloring, collage, painting, construction paper, etcetera. I also could spend hours at the park whether that be on the playground, kicking around a ball, or having a picnic. If there happens to be an impromptu dance party, so be it! The teaching/mentoring aspect really depends on the age of the child, and what the child is struggling with. With that said, most of my experience has been centered around creating a positive self-image, developing social skills, and instilling basic manners and courtesy.
