About me
Cristina Martelo has worked with children for over 10 years in multiple capacities - as a mentor, child-care provider, teacher, and tutor. She is passionate about her work with children and has experience with all ages, from infants to adolescents. Over the years, she has dedicated her time to empowering youth to be happy, confident, compassionate, and thriving members of their communities.
Cristina is Colombian by birth, but a global citizen at heart. She has lived in Miami, New York, Paris, and Ottawa. In March 2016, she embarked on a 4-month journey through South East Asia where she became interested in Eastern traditions and holistic practices. She returned to New York and wrote her undergraduate thesis on mindfulness as proactive prevention for depression. Cristina graduated from Fordham University with Bachelor’s degrees in International Studies and French Language and Literature. In September 2018, she traveled through the Middle East and Europe. Cristina sees herself working full time with refugee populations - specifically youth, incorporating mindfulness and social-emotional learning practices. Eventually, Cristina plans to obtain a Master’s degree in either Positive Psychology or Neuroscience and expand on her research.
Cristina speaks Spanish, English, French, and is currently taking Arabic classes. On her downtime, she likes to read, travel, photograph, and spend time with her loved ones.
