About me
I was born in Manhasset, Long Island. I spent my early childhood living in Queens and then moved to Long Island in first grade. I have a younger sister and we were best friends growing up. When I was a kid, I loved the outdoors, gardening, and the arts! Everyday I would draw and play the violin and piano. When I graduated high school, I moved to Baltimore to study painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), one of the best art schools in the country. Through MICA, I was able to engage my surrounding community, by teaching art and urban farming to elementary aged kids. After I graduated, I was an arts educator, working in elementary schools and museums. After 3 years, I decided to move to Kunshan, China, to both pursue a full-time teaching position at an international school and learn more about my parents' culture and language.
Since graduating, I've had 6 years of education and childcare experience. I've worked as a resident community artist at an elementary school teaching children ages 7-10, in which I worked with teachers during the school day to incorporate art and project-based learning into the core subjects. After, I worked as an after-school and substitute teacher a Montessori elementary school. There, I taught children ages 6-10 using the Montessori method of learning through self-guided exploration and discovery. Simultaneously, I worked at the Walters Art Museums as an educator, teaching kids and family art projects based on the museum's art collection. After 3 years of arts education, I moved to Kunshan, China to work as an elementary homeroom teacher. I worked with children ages 7-13, from different cultural and language backgrounds teaching them the core subjects and art.
I love working with children! They see the world with new eyes and aren't afraid to experiment and dream. That energy rubs off and allows me to approach the world with the same playful energy! When I work as a nanny, I hope to create a safe and nurturing environment, in which children can learn and develop through purposeful play and self-discovery! In order to ensure that happens, I work to offer clear and fair guidelines that promote positive behavior.
