About me

Hi! My name is Larissa, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from UMASS Amherst in 2016. I grew up in New Jersey with my mom, younger sister, and two older brothers. As a child, I went to dance classes and soccer practice every day after school. At age 12 I decided I wanted to commit all of my time to dance so I stopped playing soccer and started dancing more and more. At age 14 I began to train with Joffrey Ballet Company in New York City. I danced professionally in classical ballet for five years. I made a drastic career shift when I went to college. I decided I wanted to fulfill my passion for working with children and dedicate my education to teaching. It was a major change, but I am so grateful for my decision.

Throughout college, all of the hours I used to put into my dance career, I spent on studying education. From the very start of my freshman year, I jumped right into the profession. I worked at a daycare, then a preschool, nannied every minute I wasn't studying, and then student taught for three years. My dedication to being a successful educator and work with children flourished.

Once graduating from college, I began working as a first-grade teacher at a public school in Massachusets. I enjoyed my experience there but decided I wanted to be closer to family and moved back to New York at the end of the year. After moving, I got a job as a second-grade teacher in Brooklyn and could not be happier.

I cannot wait to share my passion and enthusiasm with your family and sharing more about myself! I look forward to having a partnership with your family!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Continue broadening my professional teaching career. I absolutely love teaching, and in five years I hope to be developing my own curriculum using the knowledge I have gained from my own experience. I also have a passion for working with children and families in foster care. In five years I would like to be using my duel degrees in education and sociology to advocate for children and families in the foster care system. I'd like to become an active member of Advocates for Children of New York to ensure they have equal opportunity to receive a quality education

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I was a dancer my whole life and danced professionally with the Joffrey Ballet Company for 5 years. I love sharing my love for dancing with children especially when they share an interest. I also have a passion for yoga. I practice weekly and love sharing fun yoga poses and breathing activities with children. I incorporate yoga into my teaching and love seeing how much children gain from the practice. I also specialize in reading and enjoy sharing teaching young children how to develop the skills to become a fluent reader.
