About me

My first formal experience babysitting was in eighth grade, when I cared for a three-year-old English girl who called me a “very little grownup”! I’m still on the small side, but my love of caring for children grows continuously! I have four little cousins, and helping to care for them throughout elementary and middle school was very important to me. Since then, I’ve been priviledged to work with a variety of families and age groups. I've worked as a Kaplan reading tutor with ages 6-10, and as a babysitter doing everything from acting out "Frozen" to helping with the Middle School application process.

As a sitter, it's important to me to establish a structured environment, specifically suited to the needs of each child. I am an actor, singer, and yoga teacher; all of which informs my work as a sitter. My training as an actor has heightened my ability to relate to kids on an emotional level. It's also expanded my imagination, helping me to facilitate learning through creativity (and made me an aficionado of playing pretend!). I love teaching kids mini-yoga lessons, or using breathing techniques to help with focus. Yoga certainly helps ME to be consistently focused and present to the needs of each child.

I find working with children-- watching them learn, and learning from their open minds and curiosity-- as inspiring as it gets! I feel very lucky to be able to make a strong, personal, and positive connection through my work.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I'd love to be performing on or off-Broadway and regionally, especially in classical theater. I'm hoping to train as a dialect coach, and work both with actors on specific roles, and as an accent-reduction specialist. I also want to keep teaching yoga, and find a studio home where I can establish a regular teaching schedule. I hope to continue to travel as much as possible, and would love to spend a few months teaching theater or yoga abroad. Above all, it's important to me that I maintain close relationships with my family, boyfriend, and friends.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Anything related to performing! I love to teach acting, singing, and musicianship. I enjoy working with kids on anything that's creative-- from making a collage to pretending to be back in time. In my own life, I've always found that approaching something creatively-- be it acting it out, drawing a picture, or making up a song-- helps me to remember and learn about it in a new way. I also love sharing yoga with kids-- be it through asana, breathing exercises, or learning about mindfulness. I really enjoy helping with homework, and my training with Kaplan has given me a variety of techniques to utilize.
