About me
I come from a large family and was very used to looking after my younger siblings and cousins. These child minding responsibilities from a young age gave me skills that I have taken into my adult life. I am a confident people person, which means I have worked on creative projects in a professional capacity with a range of different types of people from varying age groups. This has included managing artists residences working with the elderly, teaching children theatre, running art workshops for people who have special needs and teaching master students devised theatre. I believe each age group has a unique perspective on life and I am a firm believer in intergenerational conversation and education. I believe intergenerational exchange expands our horizons and life experiences fostering healthier relationships and more open minded people. I specifically love working with children as they offer a unique and refreshing perspective on life.
As an actor and theatre maker I know a great deal of performance games, including improv and devising techniques. This means I am able to engage and keep up with children’s creative play and stories and I have the ability to facilitate and make up fun activities. I believe in learning through play but I also place value on reading and writing. My degree in English and tutoring experience has given me the skills to encourage and engage children in difficult learning tasks. Although I offer a fun creative environment I am firm in order to make sure disciplinary and educational goals are met.
My acting work and art practice means I am focused and diligent. I have also organized art and performance events. This requires excellent time management and scheduling skills. I transfer these skills into my child minding work making sure we stick to schedules and to the children’s routines whilst maintaining a fun, light environment.
From working with children I have learnt that each child has different needs. I am a passionate creative person with a lot of energy but I am never overbearing or intrusive always insuring a calm, open and secure environment for the children under my care whilst making sure that I meet each child’s needs and respond to their differing personality types.
