About me

At the ripe old age of 11, I took a Red Cross babysitting certification course at the public library in Memphis, TN. I have been working with children ever since. I was always surrounded by children growing up and have helped many a family member and friend with their children. I have worked with children from infancy to teenage years. I have changed diapers, taught acting classes, built forts, assisted with homework, held crying babies and pre-teens, and many other tasks in between. Every time I veer away from child care, I always seem to find the path back.

In the summers, I used to teach at a theatre camp in Memphis, TN. I worked with children ages 5 and 6, 7 to 11, and 12 to 17. We focused on body-positive, non biased casting. The littles would perform a show that my co-teacher and I wrote for them at the end of a week. The younger ones would help us write their show and we would perform it at the end of two weeks. The older children were guided to write their own show. We held warm ups, wrote in journals and focused on over all creativity.

In New York, I had the same babysitting family for five years. I started when the girls were 6 and 8 and continued until they were 12 and 14 and no longer required a sitter. I would pick them up after school, take them to dance, walk them home and help with homework and dinner. We loved to play games and invent new dance moves together. Those girls also had a special talent for baking, which became one of our favorite activities.

Children have a special talent for keeping me quick on my feet and always manage to fill me up with creative inspiration and joy.
As a theater major, and an overall creative person and artist, I find that working with children allows me to never feel inhibited in my creativity and helps me to grow and continue to learn. I truly believe that if adults listened to children more often, many of the worlds' problems could be solved.

When working with children, I create a fun, safe, open minded environment. I encourage creative play and always try to dust off the corners of the imagination. I am detail oriented, organized, great at multi-tasking, energetic, great at schedules and always willing to learn what lights a spark in a child.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

settling into a career as a writer/director/ filmmaker. It takes many years to actually become a constant present in this industry, and in five I hope to have sold a few screenplays and be steadily working my way up to directing them.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love that children have the ability to make a game out of anything and I just have to be willing to play along. In the improv world, the number one rule is always say yes. This helps so much when inventing games with children. If they say there's a dragon in the living room, I better find a sword. I love to make crafts with kids, and allow them to perform. I also encourage confidence building, creativity in all forms, and never allow gossip or talking bad about the kids at school, unless of course there is a serious issue that needs attention.
