About me

Hello! I’m Olivia!

A professional nanny for several years in Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Yale with a BA in Theater Studies and with the equivalent of minors in English and History. I choose to work professionally in childcare because of how immensely enriching it is to my art and my life. Theater is all about imagination — who better to teach us that than children! Rather than seeing my work in childcare as a means to an end, I see it as a necessary component to my own wellbeing — a happy, well-rounded, and inspired life.

I started nannying professionally after college, and I worked about three years full-time for a family of two young children (a rascally 1.5-year old and sweet 3-year-old.) I like to encourage real play and a real sense of fun; I don't resort to devices or television. I’m actually not on social media and held out on the smart phone thing until last year — I guess you could say I prefer people-to-people interactions!

In addition to nannying, I have twelve years of experience babysitting children ranging from infant to 13 years old. During middle school and high school, I served as the primary babysitter for a family of three children. A common thread amongst my childcare experiences is that the families I work for, or the children I care for, begin to feel like an extension of family to me.

Outside of childcare and acting, I’m a rower and an avid traveler. I’ve been backpacking in Southeast Asia and have traveled pretty extensively in Europe. I love to try new things, be it eating strange food in foreign countries (I’ve got a great story about a bizarre octopus dish in Seoul) or learning to play chess (one of these days I will beat those guys in Washington Square Park). I plan to spend my whole life learning, and I hope to inspire that same mentality in the children under my care.

Balancing a really nice art / work ratio: being a part of the kind of theater projects that really mean something to me while also doing income-generating work that I enjoy and that sustains my creative life.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to let kids play and inspire them to think outside of the box in their playing. Most recently, a Barbie doll Sea World show morphed into a full blown obstacle course that took over the whole play room when I asked the two 4-year-old girls I was babysitting what would happen if they, too, were part of the show. I like to encourage children to see a task through to completion (I once assisted in a Montessori school and loved that component of the education), and I insist that children help with clean up so that it becomes second-nature to them. Besides these things, I generally like to help them along through whatever developmental stage they’re in — be it motor skills with babies, singing the alphabet with preschoolers, or social issues with middle schoolers.
