About me

From the time I was in elementary school, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! I developed a passion for school thanks to my dedicated teachers. As I grew older, that passion for school evolved into a passion for working with children and changing their lives, as mine was changed. Over the past 12 years, it has been my privilege to work with children of numerous ages and developmental levels. I began my career with children as a day camp counselor with children from 4-10 years old. I acquired multiple babysitting gigs from this job, where I babysat for a family of three children for many years. When I started, the ages of the children were 6 years old, 4 years old, and an infant. My duties included meal preparation, playing, and assisting in night time routines including putting to bed. I also worked as a lifeguard at a day camp where I taught swim lessons to children ages 3-11. After my career within day camps concluded, I worked at the Montessori Academy for one summer as a counselor/instructor with children ages 3-5. The following year, I graduated from college with my teaching certification in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Writing Arts. I became an instructional assistant at a school for students with varying intellectual disabilities such as Autism, Downs Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, and other intellectual disabilities. As a side gig during this time, I babysat for a boy in 4th grade daily after school, getting him off the bus, providing a snack, helping him with homework, and playing games. The following year, I came into my current teaching job where I presently work as a special education teacher of students with varying intellectual disabilities. Last summer, I babysat a boy with special needs, bringing him to the pool daily, providing him with an eventful, fun, and safe summer. As you can see, I have a multitude of experience with typically developing children of all ages as well as children with special needs. I love my job and my love continues to grow every day as I work with children and enhance their lives emotionally and academically.

When working with children, I foster a strong personal commitment to making their time enjoyable, engaging, and safe. Through my career as a teacher, I have learned how to develop more effective lesson plans, motivational exercises, understand the importance of providing learning experiences through daily living activities. I’ve received positive feedback from teachers, parents, and mentors for my ability to develop teaching materials, motivate students, and create a positive environment.
