About me

My name is Tijana. I grew up in Woodside, Queens. I’ve been working with children since high school, when I choose to do my community service with children who have special needs. This experience helped me exercise my patience and compassion. I think all children are important and should be treated equally. Right after high school I got my first job working for a family with three children. When I started they were ages 5, 6 and 11. I worked with them for five years. It was a pleasure seeing the kids grow up and blossom into wonderful young adults. After this job ended I started doing part time positions and enrolled in school studying speech pathology. I am currently still pursuing that degree. The ages of children I cared for ranged from 3 to 8 years old. After that I started a job working for the Department of Education for two years. In that time I had worked with children of various ages, ranging from pre-k to middle school and children who had behavioral or mental disabilities. After this position ended I enrolled in classes full time while working for another childcare agency, which gave me the freedom to choose my own work schedule. I’m currently working part time with a wonderful family in Kips Bays. The boys were 3 and 6 when I started and I’ve been working for them for one year now. In my spare time I love picking up a new book and getting lost in it. Besides interactive play, I also think that reading is a fundamental need in a child’s life. I love reading and doing various different arts and crafts with the children I take care of. I also like anything outdoors and my weekends are spent upstate and out of the city. My passion in life is to essentially work with children in a classroom or a one on one basis. My five year plan is to finish up with school and open up my own indoor playground for children and use all the skills I’ve obtained over the years in working with them. I love the idea of being part of the family. I am fortunate enough to have worked with some really great families over the years. I am a very kind person who takes pride in being able to be a positive influence on a child’s life. Everyday is a learning experience when being around a child, you really get to know them and become a part of their growth.
