About me

I have been working with children in various capacities since I was 16 years old. I started with teaching gymnastics (which I do to this day!), and eventually found my way to Montessori education. I have a passion for working with children under the age of 6, and particularly with infants and toddlers. I believe in treating children-- including infants-- with respect and compassion. I incorporate RIE, Montessori, and the lessons of Janet Lansbury when I work with infants and toddlers. I set firm boundaries so that the children can feel safe and secure. I work to foster independence in the children, and gently guide them to flourish into their full potential!

Being a toddler is no small task, and I work to acknowledge each child's emotions instead of distracting the child, until the feelings pass. I let the child know that it is OK to feel sad or frustrated, and help them to communicate these feelings. I don't shy away from big emotions! I believe that creating a comfortable environment in which the child can explore their interests and be able to work and play peacefully and independently, while also knowing that there is an adult to whom they can turn for guidance, love, or just a hug, is at the core of raising well-adjusted, independent, and happy children. I also try to avoid television and other screens as much as possible.

I feel privileged and grateful that I get to witness this important time of development in so many children's lives!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years, I hope to have started my own Montessori toddler program! I also foresee a great garden with an abundance of fruits and vegetables that will comfortably feed me and my family.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to help the children cook and guide them through simple food preparation, depending on their age. I love whipping up healthy snacks, and I've found that when the children are involved in the preparation, they are far more likely to eat what they've made! I also loved arts and crafts as a child, so I love doing those with children as well. I like to prepare projects based on the child's interests. In the past I have done photography projects, jewelry making, Perler beads, and mural painting. I also have a passion for reading and story telling, so I don't mind spending hours reading through a mountain of books!
