About me

Hi! My name is Diana and I am a recent graduate of Trinity College where I received a BA in Theater and Dance. I have three siblings total, an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. I have been a babysitter for multiple families, a tutor, a camp counselor, a group leader, and I work for New York Kids Club.

My work at New York Kids Club consists of a multitude of services and events we have on a regular basis. I am required to multitask, always keep my energy up, work with many different coworkers (we have sixteen locations all over the city so I have A LOT of coworkers), work with many different families (often at the same time), and adapt myself to whatever role I am filling. Whether I am teaching, coaching, or simply lending a helping hand, I am always ready to roll with the punches and effectively deal with whatever comes my way to the best of my abilities (without being afraid to reach out for help when needed).

I have always loved working with children and began babysitting when I was 16 years old. Though, technically, my first job was to look after my two younger siblings. While I have worked for many families, three in particular stand out. One of my first jobs was babysitting for two young boys. I started when they were 2 and 5 and now they are 5 and 7. I babysat them at all hours of the day and was in charge of meal prep, bed time, diapers, taking care of the family dog, you name it! I love those boys so much and actively keep in touch with the family. I also worked for a family as a babysitter and tutor. They have three children, one boy and two girls, and their 6-year-old boy needed homework/reading help. At first, progress was slow, but with patience and allowing myself to learn from him as much as he was learning from me, his reading and mental stamina improved greatly! When I wasn't tutoring, I was babysitting him and his sisters who are 2 and 4.

Lastly, I worked for a family with two older children, an 8-year-old boy with Asperger's Syndrome and his 10-year-old sister. At first, the mother was worried because of her son's diagnosis, but we effectively communicated about the specific care he needed and worked out a great plan. I immediately found that underneath the stigma of Asperger's there was a wonderful young boy who had created his own alphabet, was an amazing artist and a fellow goofball! Since the kids were older, my work consisted of picking them up from school, cooking, homework help, getting them ready for after school activities, and administering medication when needed.

I have loved working with kids since I got my first babysitting job and I love to see children grow and come into their own while having fun and learning. My personal philosophy when it comes to working with children, in any capacity, is to have as much fun as possible while being as safe as possible, and to keep my inner child very active. To make sure I stick to this philosophy, I try to understand each child I work with as an individual and to be aware of their personal needs and wants. I also try to go with the flow and not take things too seriously. With that said, I take safety very seriously and make it my number one priority at all times. I am certified in CPR/First Aid/Using and AED machine and I know the Heimlich Maneuver.
