About me

Hi, my name is Ciara. I am an energetic and fun pre-k teacher. I am a passionate advocate for Early Childhood Education, and believe that children develop so much at this important age. My teaching philosophy is child centered. I learn children's interest and abilities and meet them where they are to take them further. I create multimodal curriculum for my class, reaching all types of learners: visual, auditory or kinesthetic. I enjoy creating hands on learning experiences for children as they can truly connect to the learning. Children need routines and structure in their lives, and I believe that setting these routines and following a daily schedule can help them feel safe and secure, knowing what to expect each day. I love my job and really feel happy going to work everyday.

I am originally from Ireland. I moved to New York six years ago, after finishing my Bachelor degree. I have worked as a preschool teacher now for three years. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Galway, Ireland in 2012. I majored in English and Geography. I am currently in the final stages of completing my Masters degree in Early Childhood in the City College of New York. I have lots of time to dedicate to my job and schoolwork. I would love to extend my current Masters to Special Education. I have extensive experience teaching and babysitting. I also tutor 3 year old twins in Early Math and Literacy on the weekends. In literacy, I work on letter recognition and letter sounds. In math, I work on number and shape recognition, patterns and sorting. When I’m not working, I love taking yoga, barre fitness classes and running.
