About me

When I was a sophomore in high school, I thought I wanted to be a writer. Then, that summer, I volunteered at a day camp that made me realize - "Why spend my days alone in front of a computer when I can have so much more fun with kids instead?" This experience was the first of many to spark my desire to work with children. Throughout the years, my passion for working with children has only grown as I worked at summer camp, student taught in college, taught English abroad, and babysat for numerous families. I have worked with children from ages 6 months - 12 years, and have found joy with every experience.

My values and interests greatly drive me when I work with children. I firmly believe that we as adults should always act as role models for future generations. Because of this, I always try to lead by example and have important conversations with kids about kindness, empathy, giving back, and treating others the way we ourselves would like to be treated. At the same time, I really believe that we live in a fascinating world that is ours to explore! I urge the kids I work with to look at the world with wonder, to explore where their natural curiosity leads, and to ask questions.

I also bring my interests into my experiences with kids. I love to read, and believe that there is such a rich diversity of funny, meaningful, and magical children’s books out there and ours for the reading! I also grew up in the suburbs, and therefore love the outdoors – whether it is going for a nature walk, hiking, going to the beach, or simply lying outside on a blanket. I think there is so much joy and discovery to be found for kids when they spend time outside. While I always try to bring my interests into my childcare experiences, I also love learning about the children's unique interests and exploring where they will lead. I hold a degree in Elementary Education and English, and am fluent in English, Russian, and a little bit of Hebrew.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years, I hope to be an elementary school teacher, preferably in a high-need area. I particularly would love to be teaching 2nd-4th grades. If possible, during my summers off I would love to be on the leadership team of the camp where I worked for 7 years, at the 92nd Street Y. I also hope to have traveled more and formed great memories with my family, friends, and the children I am privileged to work with.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

As mentioned earlier in my profile, I absolutely love to read. As a caregiver, I would love to read with the children I care for. This could be by helping them learn how to read or read for school, discussing books with them, or reading to them. I think books truly are pathways to different worlds, and that there is the perfect book out there for everyone! I would also share my love for the outdoors by exploring it with children and by helping answer any questions that they come up with about the natural phenomena occurring all around us. One obvious and awesome way to do this is by exploring the city's many wonderful parks with the children. Additionally, though I am not a skilled artist, I do enjoy art - specifically painting. I would love to do art projects of all kinds with the children I care for. Dance is also a hobby of mine, though I never studied it professionally. I would love to participate in something dance-related with children, whether it is a formal class or a simple game of freeze dance. Finally, during my studies of education, I really developed a love of STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities. I think these type of hands-on activities are so fun and so educational for kids, and I would love to share them with the children I care for.
