About me

I've been an "older cousin" for about as long as I can remember. And as some may know, what "older cousin" also translates to is "free babysitter." Now, I don't say that with any sort of disdain, more so with pride - I always loved being the one my aunts and uncles turned to and always loved that they trusted me to take care of and be a role model for my younger cousins.
Growing up, that "older cousin" babysitting quickly turned into a way to earn some extra baseball card money, as I began babysitting for family friends or other families within our church parish. Suffice to say, childcare and babysitting always found its way into my life.

Moving into high school, and eventually college, my experience working with kids developed into tutoring and mentoring. I worked at summer camps assisting kids with developmental disabilities, I freelance tutored for younger students at my former K-8 elementary school, I assisted in my high school's student visitation program, and later on, I worked for three years as a peer tutor in my university's writing center.

While in college, I found my way to theatre, which quickly became my passion, along with childcare and education. Over those four years, I studied acting and journalism, developing skills in story telling, problem solving, teamwork, time management, self-confidence, self-discipline, and self-care. These are some of the few qualities I love passing on to the kids I care for, but what I love most about working with kids is how they constantly remind me to find the good in things and enjoy life like they unabashedly do.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years, I hope to be supporting myself as a working actor, hopefully still in this wonderful place called New York City. That does not mean that I will care any less about childcare or youth education, that just means I will hopefully be following my truest passion to its fullest extent. I would hope that everything I learned from the families I've worked with will still be with me as I get closer to having a family of my own.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love getting out on the city with the kids, taking them to parks, playgrounds, and museums. When not able to, I love playing board games, arts and crafts, and letting the kids use their imaginations to plan our activities. As a young kid, I spent a lot of my time at school being bullied, for how I looked, how smart I was, whatever thing it might have been that week. Although I dearly hope that none of my family's children are being bullied, I like to think I can help those that are, share with them my stories, and do what I can to ease their troubles. It took me far too long in life to love and properly take care of myself, so teaching those qualities to the kids I care for is one of my top priorities. When it comes to more day-to-day things, like homework and behavior, I like to help show kids the importance of patience, hardwork, discipline, and teamwork.
