About me
My name is Collin. I'm originally from Philadelphia, but I've been living in Brooklyn for eight years. I have a Master's Degree in Cinema Studies from NYU and have been a filmmaker, illustrator, and teacher for the past seven years. In addition to being a full-time lead classroom teacher (mostly for pre-k and kindergarten), I've taught video, animation, and comic book art to kids ages 4 through 17. I love to read, write, and go on hikes in the woods. I'm very into comic books, and actually run a website about comic books as well.
I believe in building a strong emotional and academic foundation for all the kids I work with, and I love working with kids of all ages. One of my favorite things as an educator, babysitter, or nanny is getting to watch children grow mentally and emotionally. To be able to see moments of epiphany in regard to learning or even during play—and to be a part of the scaffold that leads to such moments—is a truly amazing thing. When I was growing up, I never had a mentor, and I know how important it is to have a special someone guiding you when you are young. Because of this, I've taken great pride in making sure I am a positive influence on all the young people I engage with on a professional and personal basis.

In 5 years, I hope to be...
Working at a non-profit, arts organization, education organization, or museum that is progressive, focused on social justice, or on helping others in the community. Ideally, I'd like to be involved at a grassroots level on a project that deals with something of this nature, preferably at a managerial or upper-office level. Making a positive difference in the world is very important to me, so I'd like to work for a place that shares my values.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love to do art projects, especially illustration and comic book making. I also love taking photos and video, and have a ton of experience with editing and shooting film. Most of all, I like to have as much fun as possible, while learning new things every day!
