About me

I have loved working with children ever since I was 14 and played the oldest orphan in a production of Annie! Since then, I have served as a childcare provider, dance and theater teacher, and fellow world explorer with children of all ages. From toddlers to teenagers I have facilitated learning and play in both educational and home environments. With a sharp and detail-oriented mind I am wonderful at keeping calendars and personal assistance, I am an experienced dancer and creative mover, and as someone with dietary restrictions I am an avid allergy-friendly cook and baker. While working with children I create a structured and safe environment that lends itself to learning through play.

For years I have been a great advocate for use of all art forms in education. Art, dance, music, and theater expand the mind and allow children to relate to the world around them in different ways, slowly making sense of it and becoming fully formed, compassionate people. Care and heart is the center of everything I do, whether it is reading, to volunteering, to interacting with the people around me. I am certified to practice nonviolent communications methods and use these techniques as a basis for dealing with conflict. I am a lover of books and math games, as well as creating visual art. Growing up in the country has given me a different appreciation for the city and opportunities to get outside. Children interact with the world in a different way and I love that I continue to take in life lessons from them. Everything I’ve learned in life has been through care and compassion, and sharing that with young people is one of my greatest joys.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I am looking to have begun a position in the administrative offices of a theater company, either working in programing or arts education. I am also hopeful that a nonprofit I have founded, SPEAK*, will be blossoming more than we imagined and actively sharing the arts with children in disadvantaged communities.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I adore teaching creative movement and dance classes. Learning discipline and math skills through movement really ingrains it in your brain. I also love to teach painting and visual storytelling skills, as well as exploring compassion and conflict through various problem solving tactics.
