About me

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan studying dance, music, and other athletic pursuits, and graduated from the University of Michigan with an interdisciplinary degree in the arts, the built environment, and social justice. After, I lived in Seattle, where I danced professionally. I moved here to pursue an MFA in poetry from NYU, and am now studying public policy John Jay College. Throughout these pursuits, I've worked with children ages 4 months to 18 years in settings ranging from private homes to elementary schools, group homes, youth incarceration facilities, and dance studios. I am comfortable with and have experience changing diapers, cooking/feeding; putting down for naps/sleep, administering medication, etc. I am punctual, love to cook, value transparency and communication, and love being active with kids!

I love working with babies and toddlers, and have recently worked as a part-time sitter for baby A, who was 9 months when we met (now 15 months). We loved to go for long walks, visit story time at the library, and swing! I concurrently worked for another family with two children - C, age 2, and R, 4 months old. I learned to juggle watching an infant and toddler at the same time, balancing their varied needs, schedules, and developmental milestones. Previously, I watched baby K from age 10 months through 2+ years. I've worked with children with medical needs, including K, who had asthma (I administered breathing treatments), and another toddler who had congenital kidney disease. I form dynamic relationships with children in which we teach and learn from each other. I support developing tangible skills such as reading, counting, and critical thinking, and less tangible skills, such as compassion, patience, and resilience. I tend to verbalize what I'm doing (we're putting on your shoes! I'm buttoning your jacket! etc.) to promote independence and self-empowerment. Most importantly, I love to laugh and get messy!

I am comfortable in the kitchen, and happy to provide healthy meals for the whole family. I am also able to run errands, do laundry, and clean. I look forward to meeting your family!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Healthy! Still reading, writing, playing with little ones, laughing, learning, perhaps teaching at the college level.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

As a dancer, yoga teacher, and athlete, I love being physical - getting down on the floor with kids as they explore their world. I also love reading books and telling stories, and prompting critical thinking skills by asking age-appropriate questions. I find turning learning into a game is helpful - chatting about numbers, letters, and colors in context with a funny story or conversation.
