About me

I am an intellectually curious person. I've loved learning for the sake of learning, and as an adult, I also love teaching. I love music, especially classical - I was an all-state musician, and other forms of performing arts. I was a big reader as a child and believe that reading (or being read to - depending on age) are great for building empathy, character, and ramping up a child's diction.

I studied the health sciences in undergrad, and studied public health and management at NYU for my graduate degree. In school I was very involved in sustainability efforts, and even founded a sustainability policy and finance group that still exists within the Policy, Law, And Business schools. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for sustainability.

During my studies I took care of a little boy (age 8 at the beginning of my care) for a Gramercy Park family. I have also taken care of three children (9 year old boy/girl twins, 6 year old girl) for a private nyc family while they spent the summer on Nantucket.
I also babysat (with smartsitters) for a Brooklyn family with an adorable 5 year old boy (I was with this family for 3+ years)

In these roles, I engage the children in music lessons, learning Spanish, cultural activities such as museums and concerts. I do pick-ups and drop-offs from school and or various camps/activities, play date arrangement. Activities also included swimming, reading and word exploration, meal prep, chess, board game play, on the fly story-telling, manners reinforcement, etc.

I personally love school aged children the best because I can act as a sitter, a big sister, a mentor, and a cultural curator. I love being part of their development as a human, and for me, it's a joy to introduce children to various cultural activities. I also think kids at this age have a great sense of humor. I like to think I have one as well, so there's a lot of laughter and fun to be had with this age group.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to be more proficient in the my current skills, and am always looking to become more of an expert in whatever task I have at hand. I also hope to still have relationships with all the families I have worked for. Will be looking to have a little on of my own.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Music (I have taught flute, alto-sax, clarinet, basic piano). I love exposing children to classical music. Anything outdoors and science-related or nature-related. I love reading, its great to explore the characters, use our imagination and critical thinking skills. It's also an opportunity to ramp up vocabulary. For older children, I like teaching conflict resolution, patience, empathy. We do that through various activities + day-to-day examples. I love practicing Spanish with children who have had some exposure, as well as reinforcing manners and independence (e.g. helping kids transition to doing things on their own such as picking up clothes after a shower, etc). I have previously taught kids to swim, play chess, play music, etc.
