About me

Originally from Chattanooga, TN, I have been living in Brooklyn for 5 years. This past spring, I graduated from Hunter College with a Master's in Elementary Special Education. I hold a Master's in Art History from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education as well. As you can tell, I really love school, and I love helping nurture a love of academia in children too!

While I have taught 3rd grade for the last 3 years, I have worked with children for over a decade. Before becoming a teacher in 2020, I nannied for two families in the city - one with children aged 8 and 10 and the other aged 2 and newborn. I've also served as a tutor for elementary-aged children, and my background in elementary education makes homework help something I am particularly strong in. Currently, I volunteer on Sundays for children's church. In Memphis, I volunteered as a middle school soccer coach and nannied for several families there. I have worked with many ages in a variety of roles!

In my free time, I enjoy running and love to encourage others in their athletic pursuits. Another one of my passions is baking, and I always enjoy finding ways to cook with the children I work with. Also, I'm an avid reader, so trips to the library after school are one thing I try to do with the kids I work with. One thing that has remained consistent throughout my life is my love for working with youth. From elementary aged to high school, I find great purpose in being someone children can turn to for guidance during the tumult of adolescence.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

teaching at a school, whether it's an elementary or high school, helping students find and shape their talents.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Art appreciation in the forms of viewing art or making art, empathy by reading books with them or asking them to put themselves in the shoes of others, kindness by encouraging them to speak kindly to their siblings and asking them to always consider how they wish to be treated, curiosity by allowing them to paint or play outside even if it's going to be a mess to clean up afterwards, and cooking as I love to bake desserts and decorate cookies with the kids I babysit for.
