About me

Hi! My name is Sarah, but you can call me Sadie. I am an almost full time Gymboree manager and teacher in Park Slope and I babysit on the side. I live in Bay Ridge, but I'm originally from South Florida and moved to NYC 5 years ago with my now husband. I spent a great deal of my childhood watching over my much younger next-door neighbors and cousins. I also spent most of my free time singing and dancing in my room and attending ballet classes. I have a BS in Biology and a Certificate of Environmental Studies from FAU. I was earning an MA in Conservation Biology when I realized that my work was, to be frank, making me miserable. I ended up completely changing careers and began working as an after school "Mad Scientist" for prek through 5th grade, and soon after, found Gymboree. Ever since I began working with children, I've wondered why I hadn't been doing it all along. It's what I am meant to do!

I regularly babysit my Gymboree students for date nights and occasionally during the day. I have also maintained a regular part-time after school "nanny" position for a 10 year-old for a year. I picked him up from school (and summer camp) 3 days a week, helped him complete his homework and any other chores (also we walked his dog together), fed him dinner, and dropped him off at various activities such as baseball practice and piano lessons. I love to do active and engaging things with children and try to avoid screen time as much as possible. I am a huge believer in the Gymboree philosophy that focuses on learning through play and exploration.

I absolutely love children of all ages but I connect especially well with the younger ones (I suppose I have a strong maternal instinct). I want to be a pre-k teacher eventually. I don't smoke, or even drink! I love to dance and sing and I spend my evenings and weekends practicing martial arts. I also have a very sweet guinea pig named Mike. I can provide a lot of references upon request.
