About me

In 2015 I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BA in Music and a BFA in Musical Theatre. Since then I have been pursuing theatre in the Twin Cities and NYC. Aside from performing, one of my other passions is working with children. My previous Nannying position not only served as my “survival job” but also provided me another opportunity to continue this passion. Working with children was another way I could demonstrate my creative side in a positive and collaborative environment.

I have worked in various childcare settings since I was 12 yrs old. My experience has been diverse and I have been exposed to youth of all ages: infants-teenagers, twins, and special needs. I find such a joy being with kids; their innocence and naivety, and constant wonder is so exciting to experience. Being with children allows me to be my quirky, outgoing self, without worrying about what they think of me. Children are some of the most accepting people.

When working with children my energy is easy going and playful, yet attentive and firm if need be. When I meet children for the first time I like to strike up a conversation about most anything of interest to them: toys, school, friends etc. This helps me get a chance to see who they are and gauge what their personality is like, while at the same time allowing them to get to know me. I'm fairly malleable when it comes to interacting with children. I can possess a more calm demeanor or be more spunky and high-energy, all depending on the needs of the child. I strive to create an inclusive and comfortable environment.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Happy. Whatever that means. Right now I see 'happy' as doing what I love. Theatre/performing, working with kids, and being with friends and family. Being in the arts is very important to me. I love theatre and music. It is my creative outlet and I find myself not feeling fulfilled when I don't work on my craft. I'm grateful to be in such a vibrant city, where I can constantly take classes and lessons to fulfill that need.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love coloring. It's one of my favorites. Another new activity that I have been very fond of doing recently is book writing, especially with younger children. They tell me a story (fiction or non) and I write it out on pieces of paper. Then we go back and draw pictures on the paper. We design a cover page and then staple it together -we made a book! Given my background in voice/theatre, I love incorporating voice and piano lessons with children. It’s such a joy to watch children grow and become excited about something I am truly passionate about. I love to choreograph dances with the child to their favorite song and hopefully perform it for when the parents get home. I also have taught voice lessons professionally now for 3 years. Sometimes all I do is a 20-30 minute sing along with young children, but once the children are 7 or 8, we can start talking about technique and how to use our voice in different ways. I constantly am encouraging my students and always keep a positive attitude while teaching! Another thing I enjoy talking about are feelings. I think it is so important for children to be able to express themselves in a place where they will not be judged. As a child I was very anxious, talking about my worries and concerns helped me develop solutions. Knowing that an adult was there to understand and listen was instrumental in my own development. I try to foster that same level of safety and understanding when I am working with children.
