About me

I grew up in Western Massachusetts, where I was a competitive dancer and attended a performing arts charter school. I filled my time with after school activities, so I never learned how to drive, but learning the bus routes there prepared me for my following years of city living.

I went to college at Boston University for Theatre Arts, originally entering with plans to focus on performance but switching to directing in my junior year. I graduated in 2012 and moved to Brooklyn. I bounced around through many of the typical 'day jobs' and found myself excelling at all of them but ultimately unhappy. My mom has always told me, 'If it's not fun, why do it?' and that began to influence how I looked for work. I had worked as a summer nanny in college, and really enjoyed it. What is more fun than working with children? I love how it enhances my approach to artistic work, because children have the best ideas. Since then, I've been working as a nanny in home with individual families, and worked at a Montessori School as an assistant teacher.

When I'm not working I like to cook meals for my friends, trying new recipes but mostly working my way through the family cook book. I come from a family that celebrates every holiday and I share that tradition with the people around me. Last year I coordinated a Christmas Pageant for my friends to spark some of that holiday magic experienced when you're young.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to be directing more theatre in the city, and finding ways to integrate that into working with children. I don't see that as working in children's theater, but with projects experienced and enjoyed by all ages and enacts change in the way we view the world around us. I also hope to have my own family, but that might take a little longer...

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love doing arts and crafts with children, especially with found objects. There is so much you can do with a pile of recyclables, or experiments that are found in the kitchen. You don't need a lot of money to fill a day with activities when you have a glue gun and imagination. I also like to loop relevant ideas from current events into activities. This past year, I invited all the children I babysit over for an election day party during the local elections. We talked about why it was important to vote, and they created their own ballots about topics they found important (i.e. favorite food, holiday etc).
