About me

I’m Emily — a nanny, writer, actor, and USC-graduate — and I came to Brooklyn from Los Angeles. With about eight years of childcare experience, I have cared for children as young as 18 months and as old as 13. I have traveled with families and temporarily lived in when parents have been out of town. But more importantly, I have made life-long connections with some wonderful families, making both the kids and the parents feel taken care of.

The kids I babysit would probably describe me as fun, goofy, positive, and playful. I pride myself on being super engaged with the kids, whether that means clucking like a chicken in a game of charades, or waiting patiently as a child figures out a tough homework question. So far as discipline goes, I try to discipline from a place of reason, fairness, and compassion, recognizing that each conflict can be a teaching moment.

Outside of childcare, I am pursing a career as a writer and actor. As an actor, I’ve had a handful of silly TV spots and have worked with theaters like Williamstown Theatre Festival, Echo Theatre Company, and IAMA Theatre Company, where I also serve as Associate Literary Manager. Additionally, I mentor elementary schoolers through a non-profit called Young Storytellers, which helps kids write screenplays through a mixture of creative game play and one-on-one writing time.

I find that there is a lot of overlap between a career in the arts and a career in childcare — both require a strong degree of playfulness, and almost always involve storytelling. I look forward to getting to know your little ones.

In five years, I hope to be working steadily as a writer, actor and producer. In a dream world, my pulitzer winning play starring Laurie Metcaff will be running at MTC, and all the while I'll be shooting the second season of my hit FX series. But if, in five years, I've set up a balanced life where I can continue to create while supporting myself, that'll be pretty great, too.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

As an improviser and practitioner of devised theatre, I love helping kids write and perform short skits, plays, and songs. I find this is a great way to get kids off of their electronic devices and into their imaginations. I'm also an avid crafter -- I love to paint, draw, knit, and sew -- and I often lead kids through arts and craft projects.
