About me

I have been working with kids in some way or another since I started babysitting at age fifteen. Since then, I've been lucky to have worked with kids of all age groups, from 6 months to fourteen years, with many different backgrounds and with many different needs.

I started as a babysitter, swim instructor, youth coach and camp counselor in high school. I taught swim lessons on Saturdays, and shared my love of sports by coaching the under-eleven girls lacrosse team. On the camp side, I started by working at a day camp for two years, then worked at an overnight program for high schoolers. During my undergrad, I continued babysitting for several amazing toddlers, and started working in classrooms through my Educational Studies program. Each class had me traveling to a different type of school around Philadelphia to observe, assist, and learn. I found a way to combine my passions for social justice, working with kids, and the Spanish language by becoming a teacher in the Bronx and Harlem. This work has challenged me, brought me tears of joy and frustration, and brought me into contact with amazing kids and colleagues. It has made me a more empathetic, thoughtful, and humble person.

When caring for kids outside the classroom, I bring a lot of the same philosophies that I use in a school setting. I believe all children can thrive in a loving, structured environment. Whether it's teaching, tutoring, or childcare, my approach is no-nonsense nurturing with a twist of fun. I'm always looking for ways to work together with children to solve their problems and become more empathetic, whether it's in regard to a book they're reading, a math problem, or a conflict with a sibling.
