About me
"Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!" -Dr. Seuss.
I love Dr. Seuss. I think I would have liked to have him as a babysitter. And although I did not, I was super fortunate to have absolutely stellar babysitters growing up. They came with bags full of fun things to do. They came with can-do attitudes and were always up for anything. They were supportive and loving, but never overbearing or micromanaging. They offered their wisdoms while respecting my autonomy. They were independent and thoughtful people with interesting histories and I am forever grateful to my parents for how attentively they chose caretakers for me and my little brother.
This is the kind of babysitter I work hard to be. I am a responsible, creative, and motivated graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Originally from California, I moved to NYC after living for a year in Europe, where I taught English to little ones in the Kindergarten and elementary levels of schools all over Lower Austria. Es war wunderschön! (Je parle aussi couramment le français, y bastante bien el español.)
I have extensive experience working with children of all ages—in schools, in private lessons, and in orphanages with at-risk youth. I’ve been babysitting now for over fifteen years, and have cared for infants as well as children with a range of special needs and ability/disabilities.
I am patient, playful, upbeat, and organized. I am dependable and thoroughly enjoy my time spent with the kids I watch. I love their curiosity, honesty, and enthusiasm. I’m pet-friendly and will probably find time to tidy up the place as well.
With me, kids lead the way... I keep them safe and happy. And if they’re ever at a loss for ideas, I’m ready with a game, or song, or dance, or puzzle, or adventure. My background in music, theater, dance, yoga, and outdoor adventuring enables me to engage kids in innovative and imaginative ways, keeping them curious and excited to learn.
One more Dr. Seuss favorite to send you onward: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who'll decide where to go."
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
- Twins
- Multiples
- Special Needs
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Continuing to support myself with jobs that I enjoy; Still surrounded by amazing and thoughtful family and friends; 5 years wiser; 5 years kinder.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
Languages, arts and crafts, reading, rock climbing, theater, dance, music, yoga and acro-yoga! Patience, compassion, empathy, curiosity, self-esteem, and gratitude. Enthusiasm for the outdoors and what lies "beyond" our own day-to-day.
