About me

As someone who hated overnight camp, I began as a counselor in training at my local day camp in 2008. From there, I spent the next 7 years working my way up to become a head counselor, working with all age ranges. 5-year-olds, 10-year-olds, and eventually 16-year-olds. At camp, I was in charge of communicating with the parents, generalizing learned skills, facilitate programming, and build true relationships with each of my campers. During the academic year, I spent my afternoons and weekends babysitting. Even at 13, I knew that I was doing something really special.

This all sparked something deep within me— a love for watching children grow. So much so, that when I started college I decided to earn my Bachelors of Science in Applied Developmental Psychology (the study of children) and received a minor in Children’s Literature.

I spent the next 4 years in college continuing to babysit when I could, as well as worked at my college’s child development center in a preschool classroom. There, I got to spend my days enriching children's lives at one of the most cutting age centers. We followed the "family model", meaning our classroom was meant to feel like home, and it did. I got to engage with 3-year-olds every day: hear their funny stories, teach them what it means to be a friend, potty trained, and got to be just plain silly.

During the summers, I nannied full-time in Center City, Philadelphia for an adorable 3-month-old who I got to watch grow into a spunky, creative, and silly 3-year-old. Being a nanny was one of the most beautiful things I have done. I got to form a genuine relationship with a child and see her grow up every day. We went to the park, I packed her lunch and made dinner, took the public bus, attended music class, and I even accompanied her family on vacation to Mexico! I found myself looking forward to when her camp day ended so I could pick her up and see her smiling face. As she grew, so did my passion for ensuring that every child knows that they matter.

Unfortunately, this past summer her mother had a brain aneurysm while she was 7 months pregnant. I was with their family all hours through the surgeries, delivery, and all of the recovery. It was a tough summer, but being able to help and feel like I was making a difference meant so much to me.

Today, as a recent graduate, I work full-time as a behavior therapist at Manhattan Children’s Center, a private school for kids with Autism on the Upper West Side. I am new to the city and love something new about it every day and can't wait to get back to enriching the lives of a family in any way I can!
