About me

The vibrant, curious and adorable energy that children bring into this world is something irreplaceable. They prove that humans are loving creatures. I wholeheartedly enjoy caring for children and have seen first hand how important education is in a child's upbringing. Children are absorbing everything around them, and those who surround them in this time of their life will naturally influence them.

I have been told how well I get along with kids since I was a kid myself -- I got my first job at the age of 12, walking over to my neighbor's house after school and taking care of a 2-year-old boy and two girls aged 6 and 8. This became a bi-weekly job for me that I continued for over a year, saving up as I went along, splurging on art supplies and colorful Nike sneakers. Since then, I have gained a dynamic range of experience working with children. I did occasional babysitting for loads of local families as a young teen, and in the summers I worked as a camp counselor, caring for and entertaining groups of 10-15 kindergartners.

I grew up babysitting and taking care of young ones, but it wasn't until these past few years that I gained the most valuable experiences in childcare. I started in France as an au pair spending my days with three kids and giving them daily English lessons. I then traveled to Thailand with the intent of touring the country but ended up staying on a small island and working at a daycare center taking care of children both local Thai and from abroad. After 7 months, I picked up and moved to Cambodia where I pursued my dream of teaching -- I became a full-time English teacher and co-director of a private school. Along the way, I've worked with kids and families from all different cultural backgrounds, age groups, and lifestyles, and seen the incredible range in all of their personalities and individual struggles. Since coming back to NY, I have been a full-time nanny for a lovely family in Chappaqua with three girls aged 9, 12, and 14.

I am a highly adaptive person. I'm organized, flexible, and always ready for the next step and can move forward with whatever is thrown at me. At my core I am an artist and come from a family of artists -- I've been drawing and painting for my whole life and was offered scholarships at five of the country's leading art universities. That creative side of me is what I think connects me to kids -- I believe hands-on, creativity-based learning is so important. I also speak proficient Spanish and French, as well as some Khmer (Cambodian).

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to do art with children and in my experience they respond really well! Activities would differ dramatically based on the age group. Usually we might work on basic color theory and mixing colors, or how to draw animals and faces. Arts and crafts projects are also a staple activity of mine -- making slime, decorating paper masks or using old magazines and newspapers to make collages. The possibilities are endless. Anything creative and hands-on is my go to activity. I also find that my passion for language finds its way into what I talk about with kids. Kids love learning new words to share with the world and giving language lessons is something I absolutely love doing.
