About me

Coming from a large family with many younger cousins and siblings, I have always enjoyed looking after children. I have had experience working with children as a babysitter and also assisting my mother in her Catechism classroom. I have helped take care of my two younger siblings throughout my life. I have babysat infants and elementary school children from California to elementary and middle school child actors in New York City.

In addition to babysitting, I have been a summer camp counselor at the Center Stage Studios where I helped direct, choreograph, and stage weekly musical productions, as well as coordinate fun activities to keep them entertained throughout the week. As a member of the National Honors Society in my high school, I have also experienced tutoring middle school and high school freshmen struggling with math.

My recent childcare work experience includes my position as a corps member for an AmeriCorps educational program called Jumpstart. This is a program for college students to become involved in local preschools, helping prepare young children in under-resourced communities for the expectations of Kindergarten in order to close the education gap. Working with children ages 2-4 years old, corps members practice letter and name recognition, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and classroom behavior with the children. I worked with a team of three other corps members under a team leader to plan twice weekly, in-classroom lesson plans and activities for a class of 15 preschool children. This position has allowed me to creatively interact with young students as well as build meaningful relationships with students, teachers, and team members. I believe my experience has allowed me to build on creativity and patience when working with a wide range of ages.

Having worked with a variety of children with different ages, I have developed a sense of flexibility when working with individual children. Part of my job as a camp counselor was to create an inclusive environment where every child felt comfortable. This meant having to adapt to children with different personalities whether they were shy or reluctant to participate. While it took a great deal of patience to find and catch interests of an individual child, it was flexibility that allowed me to find ways to boost their confidence and comfort in their camp environment. Having the flexibility to accommodate to individual students allows me to encourage the joy of learning and makes me a valuable candidate for working in a childcare position.

I also have consistently participated in various community service projects. By the time I was a junior in high school, I created my own organization called "Senior Joys" where club members and I would visit a senior center to provide vocal performances and art activities. As a founder of this club, I gained the experience that required leadership skills through the process of recruiting members, organizing events, and leading a team to achieve a common goal. I participated in New York University's community service program called, Project Outreach; where I worked with other students from 7 am to 12 am over the course or the week participating in community service projects around New York City.

My passion for theatre and the performing arts have always translated into my work with childcare because I thrive on being around limitless imaginations. As a student in the performing arts, I am constantly around creative minds and striving to expand my own. Therefore, my mission as a childcare professional is not to simply look after the safety and well being of the child, but also preserve the joy in playfulness, silliness, and creativity of that child alive as they grow and develop.
